Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr has reportedly scheduled a medical examination of Cristiano Ronaldo. Al-Nassr believes he is getting closer to bringing in the Portuguese national team captain.
According to CBS Sports as reported by Dailymail, Tuesday (12/27/2022), Al-Nassr also booked accommodation for Ronaldo and his advisors.
Ronaldo's contract at Manchester United was terminated last month by mutual agreement following his controversial interview with British journalist Piers Morgan who criticised the club and Man United coach Erik ten Hag. Now Ronaldo is looking for a new club. But news broke that he would be docked to the Middle East.
Al-Nassr is optimistic that it will reach an agreement at the beginning of the January transfer window after the more extraordinary terms of the contract are agreed. Ronaldo became a magnet for many people in the world both on and off the field. And he will perform the role if a contract with Al-Nassr is reached.
Ronaldo will reportedly be given the role of team coach if willing. Currently, Al-Nassr is coached by Rudi Garcia who before became coach of AS Roma, Lille and Marseille.
Ronaldo endured a difficult end to his career in 2022 after falling out of favour with the Old Trafford public. The 2022 World Cup also did not go as planned as he only recorded one goal from the white point. He has also been benched by Portugal coach Fernando Santos since the round of 16.
Portugal were eliminated in the quarterfinals as they lost 0–1 to Morocco. Ronaldo left the pitch in tears that was expected to be his last World Cup. Ronaldo's grief is all the more complete as he watches rival Lionel Messi win the tournament with Argentina.
Ronaldo is considering the choice of which club will be his next port of call while waiting to see if any European clubs are willing to accommodate him. But the chances of staying in Europe seem to be dwindling so a move to Saudi Arabia might be the right solution.
