Apple Employees Go on Strike, What's Up?

Apple Inc employees in Australia went on strike on Friday (23/12) local time demanding the company provide more decent wages and working conditions.

Workers represented by retail and culinary unions RAFFWU had earlier announced they would go on strike until Christmas Eve.

RAFFWU claims the eight-year-old employment agreement does not provide for weekends, two consecutive days off, work schedules, a 12-hour break between shifts and overtime pay.

"The 2014 employment agreement is one that pushes workers below the legal minimum," the union said.

The union also called on Apple to immediately discuss with them and enter into negotiations for a fairer employment agreement.

Apple did not comment on the issue.

Some time ago, Apple also faced protests from iPhone production manufacturing workers in China due to the country's very strict COVID-19 rules and policies at the factory that were judged to be less partial to workers.
