Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo cooperation make File Transfer services like AirDrop

Three giants of Chinese mobile phone manufacturers collaborate on wireless file transfer technology that works on their phones. Xiaomi MIUI, Oppo ColorOS, and Vivo Android-based FuntouchOS will integrate the peer-to-peer system.

Reported on Theverge, Monday (19/8/2019), this protocol will use Bluetooth to pair the device and should be able to transfer speeds of up to 20MB per second. This technology seems to be using Wi-Fi in the backend, such as Apple's AirDrop system.

Reportedly, other smartphone manufacturers can sign up to join a trio of current allies. The beta version of this service must be released by the end of this month.

Google has been trying to launch the AirDrop style service for Android in the past, with a variety of successes. On Android 4.0 2011, including Android Beam, which relies on NFC for device installs and is removed in upcoming Android Q.

The newer files by Google app (originally Files Go) offers a file transfer with Bluetooth pairing, while Android Q itself will integrate similar "Fast Share" functionality.

Fast Share is reportedly a feature of Google Play Services, which may explain why Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo work together to launch their own version.
