WhatsApp is reportedly going to soon expand the presence of biometric security features through the fingerprint scan available in its application. After coming to iOS first, this time the touted Android turn will get it.
This information is known after there is a fingerprint lock option in the latest version of WhatsApp Beta, precisely 2.19.221. Quoted from Android Police, Wednesday (14/8/2019), users who have installed it can now see this feature in the Settings option.
Therefore, for WhatsApp beta users on Android is already testing this feature. It is not yet known the exact schedule when this feature was rolled out globally, but considering it is now present in beta, it is possible that WhatsApp is ready to release it in the near term.
Through this biometric security feature, WhatsApp wants to offer the security of his personal message body better. So, not just anyone can open the chat app because of the required fingerprint verification.
Despite offering more private security features, his presence turned out to make a number of users anxious. For, there is a fear of WhatsApp retrieving biometric data from the user's device.
Facebook as the owner of WhatsApp has quite bad user data security. This was evidenced by the data abuse scandal that had been excited last year.
Therefore, some researchers call the decision to wear fingerprints in an application, the user means knowing the consequences of such data can be lost.
"Once you share that information on social media, it's the same as it's lost," Japanese security researcher Isao Echizen said in the Financial Times.
Previously, WhatsApp was also reported to be developing an Instagram Boomerang-like feature. This feature will reportedly allow users to create video loops.
Citing NDTV reports, this Boomerang feature is in development and new stages will be available for WhatsApp users who use the iPhone.
According to WABetaInfo, the development of Boomerang features has been done by WhatsApp. The users of this Facebook messaging app are mentioned to get the new features through the Video Type panel.
